Press Release: MURIC CALLS FOR PRAYERS FOR NIGERIA 26th April 2007

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) participated in the Consultative Summit organized by civil society at the Hilton Hotel, Abuja, on Wednesday 25th April, 2007.

Summit reviewed the April 2007 elections and denounced the massive rigging perpetrated in favour of the ruling party. Summit also strongly condemned the intimidation of opposition before, during and after the elections.

As a fall out of the Summit and in commemoration of Workers’ Day (1st May), MURIC calls for prayers in all mosques throughout the Federation tomorrow Friday 27th April 2007. In particular, MURIC invites its members in Lagos to worship at Alausa Central Mosque, Secretariat, Ikeja.

Imams throughout the country will pray for the repose of the souls of faithfuls killed during the protests against rigged elections. They will also pray for the families of all the victims of police and army brutalization of protesters. Prayers will also be offered for the restoration of genuine democracy in Nigeria, the assertion of the sovereignty of the citizenry and the return of social justice, peace and tranquility.
