Press Release:MURIC COMMENDS FG ON DOKUBO’S RELEASE 15th June 2007

Asari Dokubo, leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, was granted bail on Thursday, 14th June 2007 after a protracted legal struggle.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) commends the Federal Government for taking this step. We charge judicial authorities to quickly set the machinery in motion to effect the total freedom of Dokubo. We call on the followers of Dokubo to reciprocate this gesture by stopping all acts of violence and hostility with immediate effect.  Hostage-taking in particular must be openly denounced by the militant group.

We urge the Federal Government to take urgent measures to ameliorate the sufferings of the people of the Niger Delta.

MURIC gives kudos to Festus Keyamo, Dokubo’s lawyer not only for his brilliance, but also for his boldness and steadfastness.
