Press Release: INVITATION TO PUBLIC ENLIGHTENMENT FORA 6th March 2007
Ahead of the April 2007 elections and in the face of high profile political killings, thuggery, hooliganism and the intimidation of political opponents, the Muslim Rights Concern plans three Public Enlightenment Fora to educate Muslims in particular and the public generally on the need for rational behaviour, mature political culture, tolerance of the opposition and peaceful conduct before, during and after the elections. The programmes will be held in three different towns in Oshun State, namely: Iwo, Ile-Ife and Oshogbo, the state’s capital under the theme: 'Islam & Political Violence'.
FIRST FORUM:
DATE: Saturday 10th March 2007
VENUE: Iwo Town Hall, Iwo, Oshun State
TIME: 4 pm.
SECOND FORUM:
DATE: Saturday 17th March 2007
VENUE: Ife City Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife, Oshun State
TIME: 10 am.
THIRD FORUM:
DATE: Saturday 24th March 2007
VENUE: Oshogbo City Hall, Oshogbo, Oshun State
TIME: 4 pm.
The theme of the forum is 'Islam & Political Violence'. Shaykh Daud Imran Malaasan, the president of the Taawunil Muslimeen in Iwoland and Barrister Qasim Odedeji are the speakers of the day. The occasion will be chaired by Professor O. O. Ladipo while Shaykh Abdul Razaq Abdul Rahman and Professor Lai Olurode are the chief host and special guests respectively.
